Winter weddings have a unique, romantic charm that no other season can match. While many couples worry about the weather, I truly believe there is no such thing as bad weather, only beautiful, atmospheric light that adds depth and emotion to the day.

This particular wedding took place on the winter solstice, the shortest and darkest day of the year. I was thrilled to step in as the last-minute wedding photographer for Mark and Bea’s intimate ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in London.

From the moment the bridal party arrived, the weather set a dramatic and cinematic mood. It was raining on and off, and the sky was already dark by mid-afternoon. Bea looked radiant as she walked up the grand steps of Marylebone Town Hall on her father’s arm, surrounded by her smiling family. The mix of rain, soft street lights, and winter atmosphere created incredibly moody and romantic scenes.

After the heartfelt ceremony, we stepped back out into the London streets for the short walk to their reception venue. The rain and wind had picked up, but Mark and Bea didn’t mind one bit. Huddled together under a large umbrella, the newlyweds made their way through the wet, atmospheric streets of Marylebone, holding each other close, and completely wrapped up in the moment.

These images quickly became some of my favourite wedding photographs of the year. The combination of rain-slicked pavements, glowing street lamps, and the couple’s genuine joy created a beautifully cinematic feel. I especially love how the black and white versions turned out, timeless, emotional, and full of mood.

Why I Love Photographing Winter Weddings in London

As a London wedding photographer, I’ve learned that winter days often produce the most striking and memorable images. The low light, dramatic skies, and cosy atmosphere bring a completely different and often more intimate feel to wedding photography.

Rain doesn’t ruin a wedding. In fact, it can elevate it. The reflections on the streets, the warm glow of streetlights against the dark sky, and the way couples naturally draw closer to each other create images that feel cinematic and deeply romantic.

If you’re planning a winter wedding in London and love moody, atmospheric, and emotional photography, I’d be delighted to capture your day, rain or shine.
