Our Most Intimate Wedding: A Micro Ceremony at Wandsworth Town Hall During Lockdown

My brother and his fiancée had big plans for a large summer wedding in 2020. Like so many couples that year, COVID completely changed everything.

With a baby on the way, they were determined to get married before she arrived. When a brief break in lockdown appeared, they jumped at the chance and booked the very last available slot at Wandsworth Town Hall.

Due to strict restrictions, no family members were allowed to attend the ceremony. The only guests permitted were a best man and one witness.

What happened next became one of the most emotional and unique weddings I’ve ever photographed.

Wearing Three Hats: Photographer, Best Man & Family

Not only was I their wedding photographer, but I was also the best man — and the entire “family” presence on their special day.

It was an incredibly intimate moment. Just the four of us stood in Wandsworth Town Hall as my brother and his now-wife exchanged vows in the simplest, yet most meaningful way possible.

After the short ceremony, we met up with the rest of the family for a small reception. Even though the day looked nothing like their original plans, it was filled with love, laughter, and beautiful raw emotion.

This wedding reminded me how powerful a wedding day can be, even when it’s small and stripped back. Sometimes the most memorable weddings aren’t the ones with hundreds of guests and big productions, they’re the ones where love is front and centre.

Years later, these photos mean even more to the couple because they captured such a unique and pivotal chapter in their lives, getting married just before becoming parents during one of the strangest times in recent history.
